করোনার সময় রুদ্ধ শহরে নিজ হাতে রান্না করে ক্ষুধার্ত কুকুরদের খাইয়েছেন জয়া আহসান। পশু-প্রাণীদের প্রতি জয়ার উদারতার বিষয়টি সম্পর্কে অনেকেই জানেন।

আর এজন্যই ঢাকা শহর থেকে কুকুর অপসারণে সোচ্চার এই অভিনেত্রী। রাজধানী থেকে বেওয়ারিশ কুকুর অপসারণের জন্য ঢাকা দক্ষিণ সিটি করপোরেশনের (ডিএসসিসি) কার্যক্রম বন্ধের নির্দেশনা চেয়ে হাইকোর্টে রিট দায়ের করা হয়েছে।

বৃহস্পতিবার (১৭ সেপ্টেম্বর) জয়া আহসান এবং দুটি প্রাণী কল্যাণ সংগঠন অভয়ারণ্য ও পিপলস ফর অ্যানিম্যাল ওয়েলফেয়ার যৌথভাবে এ রিট আবেদন দাখিল করেন। রিট আবেদনে ডিএসসিসিসহ সংশ্লিষ্টদের বিবাদী করা হয়েছে।

রিট আবেদনে বলা হয়, প্রাণী কল্যাণ আইন-২০১৯-এর ধারা-৭ অনুযায়ী বেওয়ারিশ কুকুরসহ কোনও প্রাণীকে অপসারণ, স্থানান্তরিত ও ফেলে দেওয়া যাবে না। অথচ অভিযোগ রয়েছে ডিএসসিসির মৌখিক আদেশে টিএসসি ও ধানমন্ডি থেকে বেওয়ারিশ কুকুর তুলে নিয়ে মাতুয়াইলে ফেলে দেওয়া হয়েছে। এজন্য কুকুর স্থানান্তরের বিষয়ে ডিএসসিসির সিদ্ধান্ত ও কার্যক্রমের বৈধতা রিট আবেদনে চ্যালেঞ্জ করা হয়েছে।
