ছবিটি লাভস্টোরি। কিন্তু তার ভাঁজে রয়েছে থ্রিলারও। পরিচালক রাজার কথায়, ‘‘গল্পটি ইন্দ্রজিৎ (অঙ্কুশ) ও কৃতীর (ঐন্দ্রিলার)। জুনিয়র ডিজ়াইনার ইন্দ্রের কথার প্রেমে পড়ে যায় সিনিয়র ডিজ়াইনার কৃতী। ইন্দ্রের আরও একটি প্রতিভা রয়েছে। সে ম্যাজিক দেখাতে পারে। পেন-পেন্সিল দিয়ে সাধারণ ম্যাজিক দেখানো ছাড়াও সে পারফর্ম করে স্টেজে।’’ কিন্তু এই ম্যাজিশিয়ান সত্তার সঙ্গে ইন্দ্রের প্রেমিক সত্তার কি কোনও দ্বন্দ্ব চলে? সেই দ্বন্দ্বের নাগাল কি পায় কৃতী? এটাই ‘ম্যাজিক’-এর মূল গল্প। চিত্রনাট্য লিখেছেন অর্ণব ভৌমিক ও পরিচালক নিজেই।

তবে এই ছবির আসল ম্যাজিক নিঃসন্দেহে অঙ্কুশ-ঐন্দ্রিলা জুটি। ঐন্দ্রিলা বললেন, ‘‘আমাদের স্ক্রিপ্ট রিডিংয়ের প্রথম কয়েক দিনে অঙ্কুশ আমাকে দেখে হাসছিল। ওর মনে হচ্ছে, আমি যেন বিক্রমকে (চট্টোপাধ্যায়) ডায়লগ বলছি। আসলে বিক্রমের সঙ্গে ন’বছর কাজ করেছি। তাই ওর কাজের ধারাটা আমি খুব ভাল জানি। আবার অঙ্কুশের ডায়লগ বলা দেখে আমার মনে হচ্ছে, ওর অন্য কোনও নায়িকাকে বলছে কথাগুলো…’’ অঙ্কুশের কথায়, ‘‘ঐন্দ্রিলা বরাবর এমন ছবি করতে চেয়েছিল, যেখানে ওর অভিনয় দর্শক দেখবেন। সে দিক থেকে এই ছবিটা ওর মনের মতো হয়েছে।’’ পরিচালকও ঐন্দ্রিলার উপরে ভরসা রেখেছেন। তাই তাঁর দায়িত্বও গিয়েছে বেড়ে। নায়ক-নায়িকা দু’জনেরই দাবি, চরিত্র দু’টি তাঁদের কাছে বেশ চ্যালেঞ্জিং।
